Most heartily we congratulate our colleague Natalia Gnatiuk and her scientific superviser Dr. Krakovskaya Svetlana Vladimirovna (Ukraine hydrometeorological Institute, Kiev) as well as her scientific  advisers Dr. Leonid Petrovich Bobylev and  Prof. Ola M. johannessen on a successful defence of her PhD dissertation  "The projections of air temperature and precipitation in Ukraine in the 21st century” at the Defence Committee  of Taras Shevchenko National University in Kiev. 12 - 16 September 2016 in St. Petersburg hosted the University Arctic Congress - UArctic Congress 2016 in which the active participation of the leading scientists of the Russian Science Foundation "Nansen Centre" in collaboration with scientists from the Norwegian "Nancy Centre" (Bergen, Norway) . "Nansen Center" Science Foundation presented four presentations on the latest results of their research.

Living Planet Symposium 2016

The 2016 European Space Agency Living Planet Symposium was held in Prague (Czech Republic) 9-13 May 2016 and was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic and the local support from Charles University in Prague. Scientific Foundation “NANSEN INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AND REMOTE SENSING CENTRE” has presented six presentations on the main areas of activity. Nansen Center was represented by a delegation of 5 persons.

The 33rd General Meeting of Founders of the Nansen Centre was held under the chairmanship of new President of the NIERSC Prof. Nikolay N. Filatov,
Dr. Sc., Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), Councilor of RAS, Honored Man of Science of the Republic of Karelia, Honored Man of Science of the Russia Federation, Member of   the Russian Geographical Society (RGS) Presidium  and Chairman of the Regional Branch of the RGS Karelian Scientific Council .

Between June 29 and July 5 2014, a Summer School for young scientists “Land Hydrology and Cryosphere of the Arctic and Northern Eurasia in the changing climate” was successfully held within the framework of the EuRuCAS project ("European-Russian Centre for cooperation in the Arctic and Sub-Arctic environmental and climate research". This Project   project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under grant agreement no 295068.The School’s venue was  the Repino Cronwell Park Hotel in a  resort area   in the vicinity of St. Petersburg.
The Summer School attendees, more than 27 persons in number, are young scientists, PhD students and undergraduate students from a variety of countries. The scientific lectures were delivered by 18 experts renowned in the area of remote sensing and climate change. The scientific programme encompassed 21 lectures as well as 26 presentations made by the young scientists. The poster session collected 17 student posters. Four thematic groups were set up at the school and the school young attendees prepared summarizing presentations on the topics suggested for them.    All participants of the summer school received special certificates.

The EuRuCAS Summer School Program is available. The Summer School is planned on 29 June-5 July in Repino, at Cronwell Park Hotel (http://www.hotel-repino.ru/en/), near St. Petersburg. Participants live in the school for the entire period at the hotel. Daily visits and participation in meetings (guest participation) for young scientists and graduate students is possible.

Norwegian delegation led by Consul General of Norway in St. Petersburg, Ms. Heidi Olufsen visited Nansen Centre 3 March 2014. The delegation also included: Senior Advisor of the Foreign Ministry of Norway, Mr. Eivind Nordsletten, Polar regions Adviser Ms. Else Berit Eykeland, Director of the"Fram" museum  Mr. Clover Geir. Exchanged views on the development of scientific cooperation between Russia and Norway.

On 10 December 2013, the 28th General Meeting of the "Nansen Centre" Founders took place, and 11 December the PhD session was held to discuss the current results obtained in the course of working on their dissertations within the Nansen Fellowship Program.

EuRuCAS Workshop 5-7 November, 2013

International scientific meeting in the frame of European-Russian Centre for Cooperation in the Arctic and Sub-Arctic Environmental and Climate Research (EuRuCAS) project held in NIERSC, Saint-Petersburg, Russia during November 5-7, 2013.
The two-day meeting brings together a number of EuRuCAS project partners from international organizations from ( Austria, Finland, France, Sweden, UK, Germany, Norway and Russia) to discuss current tasks of the project, listen to reports, establish possible projects in  contacts with people working on related problems,  etc. Focusing primarily on the EuRuCAS project activities in the area of environmental and climate research in the Arctic and Sub-Arctic including socio-economic. The meeting comprises high-level speakers from several key groups.

Evgeny Morozov successfully defended his PhD  thesis on June 6 at the  Russian State Hydrometeorological university. (St. Petersburg). His research is focused on the Bay of Biscay  “ Algorithms for the retrieval of the concentrations in chlorophyll-a and suspended matter as well as for identification of  Lepidodinium chlorophorum and  Emilianya Huxley blooms in the Bay of Biscay”. The members of the defence committee have highly appreciated the research and unanimously voted for awarding Evgeny Morozon a scientific degree “Candidate of physic-mathematical sciences”in the area of “Oceanology”.  

The NIERSC staff congratulate Evgeny  with this event and wish him further achievements in science.
